Data Sharing and Reproducibility

Because research in educational settings often involves identifiable learning data, IJPE adopts a privacy-first data sharing policy consistent with FERPA, IRB requirements, and COPE principles.

IJPE authors must:

  1. Protect student privacy above all other considerations
  2. Provide detailed descriptions of data, methods, instruments, and analysis sufficient for replication
  3. Share de-identified or masked datasets whenever ethically permissible
  4. When raw data cannot be shared:
    • Provide instruments, codebooks, scoring rubrics
    • Provide a synthetic or partial dataset when practical
    • Provide analysis code or workflows
Data Availability Statement (DAS)

Every article must contain a clear DAS that states one of the following:

  • Data are publicly available (with link)
  • Data are available under controlled access (explain process)
  • Data are available from the author on reasonable request (with justification)
  • Data cannot be shared for ethical/legal reasons (must include an explanation)
